Ibis

Not every day,
but on holy days
unannounced to us,
the striking White Ibis visit our neighborhood.
With their reddish legs
and long downwardly curved bills
they forage for insects in the grass.

Elusive
whenever I want to snatch a photo.
Their evasiveness from the camera
is disappointing
but, ultimately pleasing to me.
The ibis seem untamed
by humans;
not allowing close contact with us
Unlike our Muscovy ducks
that roam door to door
looking to be fed.
