Mourning/Morning

The weight of her last word, rough on its edges
Black coffee; sweet yet bitter on the lips
Crumbs from last night’s broken bread
Litter the kitchen table
Meanings fly past; word choice.
His rough worn flannel fades as the white paint peels
Its edges curling upward
The watch sliding loose around his wrist
