Nature’s Age

Poem from my journal. Written while walking the property following turkey scratches. Found a fern growing from a rotting log. Nearby, a Pileated Woodpecker made quick work of standing punk wood, squirrels barked, ferns and grasses finally start to appear through the layer or deadfall all around me. A forest so dead yet so full of life.

Nature’s Age

Nature – She is ancient-

one can see her age and

feel her wisdom;

Yet she is young

and all around is new

life and changing course

and one can feel

an innocence

and a brutality.

An

honesty.
