Neglect

the blackbird sang
then tumbled into the holly
he was bird alone today
the sound of a road that spoke cars

he prised open his beak
then gurgled up the horizon
he was bird alone today
as he sank into the holly

but I kept him alive
gave his day meaning
by taking home his song
that had opened up my neglect
